Jakob KRAIS is professor for the Modern Cultural History of North Africa at the Institute of Cultural Studies, University of the Bundeswehr Munich. He obtained his PhD in Islamic Studies from Freie Universität Berlin in 2014 with a dissertation on historiography and nation-building in Qaddafi’s Libya and his habilitation degree from Ruhr University Bochum in 2022 with a study on the cultural history of the body in colonial Algeria. His research fields include colonialism and postcolonialism, nationalism and political Islam, as well as body and gender history.
