The Climate and Energy Transition Nest of the College of Europe in Natolin hosted a lecture titled "Energy, Climate, and Russia’s War Against Ukraine" by Dr David CRIEKEMANS, Associate Professor in International Relations at the University of Antwerp and Senior Lecturer in Geopolitics at the Geneva Institute of Geopolitical Studies (GIGS).
The European Union faces a multitude of geopolitical challenges. In the lecture, a global picture was painted looking at various forms of energy (oil, natural gas, various forms of renewable energy, role of technology), climate and security. The lecture was focused on the following topics:
- Where do the priorities lie and how can the EU achieve energy security, competitiveness, sustainability and more strategic autonomy?
- What are the geopolitical scenarios for the war in Ukraine, and which potential consequences for peace and security in Europe?
Dr CRIEKEMANS addressed these existential challenges that the EU faces while also opening the floor for participants to engage in a discussion.
