On Wednesday, 29 January 2020, nine students from the Natolin Energy and Climate Nest visited the Dispatch Centre of the Polish Transmission System Operator (PSE) in Konstancin-Jeziorna, Warsaw.
Natolin students met with Mr Marek KORNICKI, Director for National Power Distribution at the System Management Department and Ms Marta BABICZ, Chief Advisor at PSE Innovations, former Chief of the Energy Policy unit at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and currently responsible for R&D within the PSE capital group.
Mr KORNICKI shared his insights into new developments and ongoing challenges for Poland’s electricity sector. He talked about such issues as the increasing energy consumption in both summer and winter (despite milder winter weather), recent regulations for the location of wind farms and the huge potential for solar PV power.
Furthermore, Ms BABICZ discussed her ongoing work, which encompasses research into the future functioning of the grid after new technologies are adopted.
The students also had an opportunity to visit the underground technical premises of the Dispatch Centre and observe the live transmission of electricity across Poland and bordering countries.
