Panel Discussion on "Multidisciplinary Approach to Fight Against Drug Trafficking in Europe" | European Neighbourhood Chair

On 7 May 2026, within the framework of the Natolin Neighbourhood Days, the European Neighbourhood Chair at the College of Europe in Natolin organised a panel discussion titled "Multidisciplinary Approach to Fight Against Drug Trafficking in Europe".

The event brought together distinguished experts to discuss the growing challenges posed by organised crime and drug trafficking in Europe, as well as the legal and institutional responses developed at the EU level.

The panel featured:

  • Prof. Federico VARESE, Associate Senior Research Fellow, University of Oxford & Professor of Sociology, Sciences Po, 
  • Dr Julia BURCHETT, postdoctoral researcher, Centre for European Law, 
  • Prof. Adam ŁAZOWSKI, European Neighbourhood Chairholder at Natolin.

Initiated and moderated by our student Ms Aurore GUERRERO, the discussion addressed several key dimensions of combating organised crime and drug trafficking in Europe.

The panellists presented on the following topics:

  • “Challenges of Combatting Organised Crime in Europe” – Prof. VARESE;
  • “EU Instruments and Institutions Involved in the Fight Against Drug Trafficking” – Prof. ŁAZOWSKI;
  • “Rights of Victims in EU Law” – Dr BURCHETT.

The panel concluded with an engaging Q&A session, providing students with the opportunity to discuss current challenges and policy responses in greater depth.
