Session on "Debunking Myths about Migration" by Dr Patrycja SASNAL | Kick-off Meeting of the Migration and Human Rights Nest
The Migration and Human Rights Nest of the College of Europe in Natolin launched its activities for 2025/26 academic year with an engaging inaugural meeting titled: "Debunking Myths about Migration" with Dr Patrycja SASNAL, Mentor of the Nest and Senior Professorial Fellow in the European Neighbourhood Chair.
Dr SANSAL invited participants to critically examine some of the most common misconceptions surrounding migration. In a world saturated with opinions, statistics, and media narratives on migration, the discussion encouraged participants to question whether we are truly “experts” on the topic—or simply echoing the rhetoric that dominates public discourse. Drawing on insights from the interdisciplinary field of migration studies, Dr SANSAL guided the group through nine myths about migration, comparing mass-media narratives with evidence-based research.
The session was interactive and thought-provoking, setting the tone for a year of collaborative exploration within the Nest. Participants were invited to share their views, challenge assumptions, and contribute to shaping future Nest activities throughout the academic year.
With this dynamic start, the Migration and Human Rights Nest reaffirms its commitment to fostering informed, critical, and human-rights-based discussions on one of the most pressing issues of our time.
