Academic Programme (2025-2026)

Our Master’s degree in European Political and Governance Studies develops students’ knowledge of current and future topics, including:
- European politics, institutional and non-institutional actors and decision-making processes
- EU internal and external policies
- EU governance, especially through our one-month simulation game
- EU relations with national/regional/local actors (including private actors and NGOs)
Our EU specialisation provides graduates with the necessary tools to kick-start a career in and around the EU and its institutions, public affairs and public relations agencies, national administrations, non-governmental advocacy organisations and the private sector.
The Academic year is divided in 2 semesters: throughout both semesters our programme offers solid insights into political, economic, institutional and legal dimensions of the EU. During the first semester students follow five compulsory courses and choose one optional course on EU institutions, bodies and its administration. During the second semester students continue with two compulsory courses and choose three additional optional courses out of four thematic clusters allowing them to specialise in the areas of EU studies that they are most interested in.
To complete their studies, students participate in two interdisciplinary classes (one per semester) of the Interdepartmental European Advanced Studies (IDEAs). Beyond this, the programme offers students the possibility to join in a one-week study trip to Strasbourg in February, where students get to visit European, national and international institutions and engage with leading experts, civil servants and practitioners.
The strength of our Department rests on the symbiotic combination of empirical knowledge with a more practical approach to EU studies providing students with the necessary tools to face the working environment after the College. For this reason, throughout the academic year, the Department offers different workshops in professional development to hone relevant skills to the EU job market, as well as a wide range of extra-curricular activities that allow students to engage with different practitioners.
For those students coming without a background in politics or European studies, the Department offers an online introductory programme that is available over the summer before the start of the academic programme in September.
Throughout both semesters students have the opportunity to follow language classes offered by the Language Services of the College.
Our study programme is revised annually to ensure continuing excellence and dynamism.
