Natolin Simulation Game: Students Tackle the End of the Cold War (1990)
The College of Europe in Natolin held its second simulation exercise of the academic year, transporting students to the diplomatic complexities of 1990 as the Cold War was coming to an end. The activity was led by Professor Georges MINK and Professor Marek Aleksander CICHOCKI, both of whom guided participants through the rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape of the period.
Throughout the simulation, students assumed the roles of political leaders, diplomats, and journalists. They negotiated issues central to the emerging post–Cold War order, including the future of Europe, the prospects of German reunification, the evolution of global security structures, Europe–Asia relations, and the safeguarding of human rights.
This hands-on exercise provided participants with an opportunity to refine essential skills in strategic thinking, communication, and negotiation. By engaging with one of the most transformative periods in contemporary international politics, Natolin students gained deeper insight into the challenges and opportunities that shaped the new world order.
The simulation game is part of the academic programme of the Advanced Master of Arts in European Interdisciplinary Studies.
