Launched in 2013, negotiations towards the conclusion of a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) aim for an unprecedented level of regulatory convergence. The talks are quite naturally generating heated debates on several issues closely linked to the very economic, legal and social fabrics of both partners. They also raise important systemic issues affecting the future of global governance, multilateral cooperation and relations with the world's emerging powers. To debate these important issues, we have invited two experts: Mr Pierre DEFRAIGNE, economist, former EU official and director of the Madariaga-College of Europe Foundation and Mr Hiddo HOUBEN, Deputy Chief Negotiator for the TTIP (DG Trade), who will discuss their views in a debate moderated by Professor Pierre SAUVÉ of the World Trade Institute, University of Bern, and Visiting Professor at the College of Europe.
