On 4 March 2021, The Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies at the College of Europe hosted a high-level lecture on “NATO: keeping Europe safe in an uncertain world” by NATO Secretary General Jens STOLTENBERG. The Secretary General highlighted NATO’s contribution to peace in Europe and beyond, its need to broaden its approach to security and to continuously adapt to new challenges. He stressed the key role of transatlantic cooperation as well as the need for closer EU-NATO cooperation in order to defend common values, promote shared interests and keep all member states safe and free.

Secretary General STOLTENBERG was welcomed by Rector Federica MOGHERINI. His speech was livestreamed and was followed by an extensive Q&A session with students.

This lecture and discussion was a highlight of this year’s ‘virtual study trip’ of the students of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies which has introduced them to various international organizations and topics beyond the European Union.
