Florian TRAUNER is the Vice Dean for Research at the Brussels School of Governance, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Together with Ilke ADAM, he also coordinates the VUB's Interdisciplinary Centre of Expertise on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM), which gathers over 110 researchers from 10 disciplines. A graduate of the Universities of Vienna and Copenhagen, he received his PhD in 2008 (with distinction) and his habilitation in 2015.

His research concerns the European integration process with a focus on EU asylum, migration, border control, return and internal security policies. He also works on the EU’s relations with third countries in the migration field. His has widely published on these issues and implemented different projects funded by the Commission's Horizon 2020 programme as well as the Flemish and Austrian Research Funds.

Florian TRAUNER is a regular Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Natolin Campus) and has held permanent or visiting positions at the University of Vienna, Renmin University of China (in Beijing), Sciences Po Paris and the EU Institute for Security Studies. He also acted as an external expert for different EU institutions and UN organisations.
