On 29 January 2016, the European Political and Administrative Studies Department of the College of Europe has welcomed the key players in the negotiation of the “Conflict minerals regulation”, a proposal aiming to break the nexus between conflict and illegal exploitation of minerals.
This exciting conference has provided the students from the European Political and Administrative Studies Department the opportunity to present the outcome of their simulated negotiation on conflict minerals to EU policy makers.
Mrs Maria ARENA (Member of the European Parliament), Mr Michelangelo MARGHERITA (DG Trade), Mr Leon PEIJNENBURG (European Parliament – INTA Secretariat), Mr Jan ROBBROECKX (UMICORE), Mrs Imogen SUDBERY (UK Premanent Representation) and Mr Frédéric TRIEST (European Network on Central Africa) have debated with the students about the outcome of the simulation game and replied to questions about the status of the real negotiations.
