The Chairholder of the European Energy Policy Chair of the College of Europe, Professor Dirk BUSCHLE,  organised a conference entitled "Rock Solid or Panta Rhei? The Emerging Governance of the Energy Union" on 3 March 2017 at the College of Europe, Bruges campus.

As the Energy Union starts delivering, its governance takes shape. The Energy Union governance goes beyond the Regulation by the Commission as part of the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package and should not be limited to the achievement of the sustainability targets only. Rather than a specific instrument, its governance will define the essence of the Energy Union and its design will decide upon the Union’s success and continuance. Reviewing the emerging principles and procedures by giving the floor to the institutions and key actors allowed for first preliminary conclusions as to what distinguishes the Energy Union from an internal market re-run, and where adaptations are required to ensure it adds genuine value.

This conference looked into the concept of governance, its key principles and all the roles of the actors involved in the Energy Union. This event gathered senior officials from the European Commission, representatives of national governments, international organizations, civil society and academics.
