As part of the National Week Debate Series, Europe outside the Box Debate Club invites you to an open forum debate, co-organized with the representatives of Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, and Belarus.
These countries have experienced Soviet-type state socialism either as part of the USSR, or in its immediate vicinity, by means of ‘personalized’ regimes. While Bulgarian leader Todor ZHIVKOV ended his legacy under house arrest, Nicolae CEAUSESCU was murdered during the violent Romanian Revolution of 1989. Today, Alexander LUKASHENKO pledges to build a "social (not socialist) State" in Belarus.
We would like to discuss students' experiences of communism, and look at how the transition to capitalist, market-oriented economies has worked for their countries.
The debate is open to everyone willing to express their thoughts.
