On 16 November 2016, the College of Europe Development Office hosts a panel debate on: “NEAR or FEAR: The security aspect of Enlargement”, co-organized by the College of Europe and the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).

This panel session will discuss whether enlargement can still be the foreign policy tool for the EU to transform its immediate geography and whether the EU’s enlargement strategy has any potential to be presented as a solution to the problems that generate fear among the European citizens.

The panelists will discuss whether it is possible that—if designed to become a solution to the problem of security, by increasing stability through strengthening the respect for rule of law, cooperation and solidarity against terror and coordination on migration management—‘Enlargement’ once again becomes a main policy driver towards Europe’s integration.

The speakers in the panel will include academics, practitioners, and civil society organisations working on issues of security, migration management and EU enlargement.

The event is free of charge and open to the public, but with limited places.

Registration runs until Tuesday, 15 November 2016 at 15:00. In order to register please fill in the registration form below.
