
On Thursday, 22 September 2016, Robert Jacob Alexander, Baron SKIDELSKY, delivered the first lecture in the Patron Lecture Series designed to familiarize the students with their promotion patron, John Maynard KEYNES. Lord SKIDELSKY spoke about the Keynesian view of recovery policy.
Lord SKIDELSKY is a British economic historian and the author of a prize-winning biography of John Maynard KEYNES. He holds a degree in history from Oxford University and is Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick, as well as Andrew D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University. Previously, he also held academic positions at Johns Hopkins University in the United States and at London Metropolitan University. He was made a life peer in 1991, and was elected Fellow of the British Academy in 1994.
He writes a monthly column for Project Syndicate, "Against the Current", which is syndicated in newspapers all over the world. His account of the current economic crisis, “Keynes: The Return of the Master”, was published by Penguin Allen Lane in September 2009.
The lecture was open to students from all departments as well as to the public.
