Bronisław Geremek Prize 2016

On 22 November 2016, the chapter of the Bronisław Geremek Prize met to decide this year's winners. The main prize—worth 20,000 euros—is awarded annually for an outstanding academic book in the field of European civilization and history. A prize of 5,000 euros is also awarded annually for an outstanding first academic book in the same field.

The first winner of the main prize in 2015 was Professor Mark LEWIS, of the City University of New York, for his book "The Birth of the New Justice". The award for an outstanding first book was given to Dr Wojciech ŚWIEBODA of the Jagiellonian Library in Kraków.

The chapter is organized by the European Civilization Chair, founded by the European Parliament at the College of Europe Natolin Campus, and in cooperation with the Foundation Professor Bronisław Geremek Centre in memory of the distinguished medieval historian and Polish and European statesman, Professor Bronisław GEREMEK. The chapter is chaired by Professor Richard BUTTERWICK-PAWLIKOWSKI, and its members are Prof. Marcin GEREMEK (Vice-Chairman), Prof. Andrzej FRISZKE, Prof. Maria KOCZERSKA, Prof. Wojciech KRIEGSEISEN and Prof. Henryk SAMSONOWICZ. The decision is made on the basis of reviews written by an international jury of experts of books nominated by leading academic publishers. The names of the winners will be available shortly.
