Bruges student delegation succeeds at the Harvard 2016 WorldMUN in Rome

From 14-18 March 2016, a team of 10 students of the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies has successfully participated in the 25th edition of World Model United Nations (MUN), organized by Harvard University each year in a different city.

Working either as a double delegation or a single delegation representing the EU member state Sweden (and Luxembourg in the Emergency Summit on the European Refugee Crisis), the students were able to apply their negotiation skills and EU knowledge by leading the debate in six different committees, including the European Union Committee and the First Committee of the UN General Assembly dealing with disarmament and international security, in which they won prestigious diplomatic awards.

Diplomacy awards are awarded by the chairs of each committee to the delegates who demonstrated strong preparation, excellent speaking skills, adherence to national policy, and exceptional abilities of compromise and negotiation.

Despite being divided in different committees, the delegation performed as a solid team and built a strong knowledge-based reputation over the week of negotiations.

The College of Europe warmly congratulates the laureates (Andrew CHAPMAN, Margaux VISEUR, Jonas ROLEDER, Thomas JACOBS) as well as the other members of the team (Taha BOUSMAHA, Mohamed NIDHAL ZAIER, Carl-Johan HERTZBERG, Elena MORENO, Marikki RIEPPOLA, Lauren SMIDDY) for their impressive collective effort.
