The future Rector Jörg MONAR has chosen in consultation with the current Rector Paul DEMARET Voltaire as patron of the academic year 2013-2014. Academic years at the College are known as promotions. Each promotion is named after outstanding Europeans.
The College of Europe wishes to honour one of Europe’s great defenders of freedom of thought, justice and tolerance. Voltaire’s life was marked by a constant questioning of established dogmas, openness to new ideas and friendships across borders. All these qualities make him a timeless European who can serve as a model for our students.
