DG Enlargement Writing Competition – "So similar, so different, so European"

The European Commission is inviting young people from across Europe to submit their applications to a writing competition the topic of EU enlargement. Under the heading "So similar, so different, so European", the competition asks applicants to reflect on shared European values and on how enlargement helps to strengthen the EU’s role in a globalized world.

Participants are invited to answer, in a maximum of 1 000 words, one or both of the following questions in their responses:

  • What is your experience in an enlarged European Union?
  • How can the enlarged European Union meet the challenges of the future?

The writing competition runs until 27 February 2015 (midday CET) and is open to young people aged 18-25 who live in the 28 EU Member States. Articles can be written in any of the EU official languages.

National juries will select one winner per country, all of whom will be invited to Brussels on a three-day study visit. Their winning articles will also be published by the European Commission and be offered to Europe’s leading national media outlets for publication.
