Diplomatic Training and Executive Training on the EU in Uruguay

The College of Europe Development Office was very proud to implement from 22 to 25 July 2019 the second edition of the diplomatic training course of the EU-funded project "EU Policy and Outreach Partnership – South America" in Uruguay.

Participants who attended the Diplomatic Training at the Instituto Artigas del Servicio Exterior (Diplomatic Academy of Uruguay) analysed the results of the European elections, the impact of Brexit, the challenge of fake news, and the priorities of the EU foreign policy, among other topics. Then, the group practised and sharpened their negotiation skills during two simulation exercises of EU negotiations: each participant had to represent an EU institution or a Member State and defend its position.

In addition, the College of Europe Development Office mobilised Professor Andrea RENDA to deliver an Executive Training Conference entitled "The New Digital Era: Regulatory, Economic, Democratic and Geopolitical Challenges". The event was attended by a group of diplomats, researchers, officials and private sector representatives. Professor RENDA gave an overview of the challenges and opportunities created by emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain and presented how the European Union is preparing itself to adapt to these changes.
