Dr Alex DOWDALL was invited to deliver a paper at the "Institut d’histoire moderne et contemporaine" (Paris)

Dr Alex DOWDALL, Post-doctoral Research Fellow of the EP Geremek Chair of European Civilisation at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe was invited to deliver a paper at the research seminar "Guerre et société à l’époque moderne", at the Institut d’histoire moderne et contemporaine (École normale supérieure/ CNRS/ Université de Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne) in Paris on 12 March 2015.

         

Dr DOWDALL’s seminar paper, entitled "1914-1918, Des civils sur le front ouest : sociétés locales, cultures et identités sous le feu", examined the effects of the First World War on the civilian populations of the Western Front, and discussed questions relating to the use of military violence against civilians during the conflict.
