Dr Angelos KATSARIS lectured at the University of Sheffield for an ESRC programme on the Social Science of Energy Storage

On 3 February 2015, Dr Angelos KATSARIS, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow of the European Neighbourhood Policy Chair at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe, gave a guest lecture on environmental and chemical engineering at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering of the University of Sheffield, UK.

The theoretical part of the lecture presented the theories of International Relations and focused on the role of international politics in today’s energy security discussions. The Master students were engaged in a group work over the 2003 Iraq War and a quiz over IR theories. The lecture involved as well multiple aspects of international climate and energy policies, stressed the issues of energy security and climate change adaptation in North-South relations, and concluded with a role-play activity over the upcoming 2015 UNFCCC negotiations.

The lecture was given as part of an ESRC-funded programme on the Social Science of Energy Storage of the Universities of Sheffield and Southampton which aims at training the future doctoral engineers on the social perception of new energy technologies.
