On 1 September 2014, Dr Anna-Sophie MAASS, Senior Academic Assistant at the College of Europe’s Natolin (Warsaw) campus, presented a paper at the 44th annual conference of the University Association for Contemporary European Studies at the University College Cork, Ireland.

The paper was given in a panel on the EU, Russia and the shared neighbourhood which consisted of the panelists Dr Tom CASIER (Brussels School of International Studies, University of Kent), Dr Tatiana ROMANOVA (St. Petersburg State University) and Professor Joan DE BARDELEBEN (Carleton University, Canada). The discussant was Dr Derek AVERRE from the University of Birmingham.

The paper written by Dr MAASS examines the reasons for the shift in Russian policy makers' perception of the EU in the current conflict in Ukraine, in juxtaposition to their stance towards the EU after the Orange Revolution.
