Dr WOJAKOWSKA, Dr JASKOT and Dr SOSNOWSKI presented research papers at the linguistic conference in Gliwice

On 23-24 October 2020, the conference "Multilingualism from various perspectives of applied Linguistics" was held in Gliwice (Poland).

During the conference, Dr Marta WOJAKOWSKA, Dr Maciej JASKOT and Dr Wojciech SOSNOWSKI from the Languages and Intercultural Dialogue Office at the College of Europe in Natolin, presented their research papers titled "Culturally anchored lexical units in modern foreign language teaching - challenges and approaches".

The experience acquired while teaching foreign languages at the College of Europe in Natolin has undoubtedly helped the authors prepare their presentations.  The authors notice that the modern language learner has become plurilingual and multicultural and – as a result – this poses new challenges for the language teacher. Thus, a language lesson not only serves the purpose of learning integrated language skills, but is also a space for the transmission of the culture of the language-speaking region through the introduction of lexical items which are deeply anchored in culture.

According to the authors, the didactic process becomes ground for not only an exchange of experience related to the language as a system but – increasingly – for the individual learner’s experience of the culture.
