ECGT Barcelona team wins the Public Service Innovation Award 2015

On 27 April 2015, the European Centre for Government Transformation (ECGT) project, organized in the Department of Political and Administrative Studies of the College of Europe, held its Award Ceremony on the Bruges campus.

The four ECGT teams of four students each, came up with innovative solutions to reform the European public sector. After presenting their recommendations based on their case studies to a high-level jury earlier this spring and submitting a Final report in March, the winner of this year's ECGT project was announced on 27 April 2015.

The winning team of four students, Valentin FABRE, Liliana CARAÇA MATEUS , Luis ALVARADO MARTÍNEZ and Hermione MACKAY, worked on a micro-distribution in macro-blocks case study in Barcelona, scaling-up the micro-distribution to new areas in the city. The team was awarded with the 2015 Public Service Innovation Award given by Mr Herman VAN ROMPUY, former President of the European Council.

The European Centre for Government Transformation is a partnership between the College of Europe, the Lisbon Council and Accenture, which has allowed 16 students to train with Accenture consultants on public sector case studies for a period of six months.

All four teams provided their public sector clients with actionable recommendations to reform the European public sector. All 16 students received their Certificate of Participation from Mr VAN ROMPUY.  The three other teams worked with case studies in:

  • Espoo (Finland) on a PublicAppLab project;
  • Groningen (the Netherlands) on a Smart users City project;
  • Paris (France) on a circular economy-related project.

The Award Ceremony was an open to all College of Europe students taking place at the Verversdijk site.

The European Centre or Government Transformation Award Ceremony was organized in Bruges bringing to an end the 2014 - 2015 ECGT project.
