‘El-Hiwar’ project – Seminar organized in Brussels in April 2015

In the framework of the EU-funded project ‘Training and Information course on Euro-Arab relations’, a seminar on the functioning of the League of Arab States (LAS) was organized from 28 to 30 April 2015 in Brussels. Located in the European Commission facilities, it brought together officials from different departments of the League of Arab States (LAS) and EU officials from the European External Action Service (EEAS) and different European Commission Directorates-General (DG) such as DG Trade or DG for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.

The two and a half day event started with an introduction of the LAS functioning, explaining to the audience the internal reform and changes that have occurred since LAS' creation. The seminar also concentrated on the following thematic sessions: Human Rights, Security, Energy cooperation, Electoral Observation, Women Empowerment and EU Policies. The objective of the seminar was to promote mutual understanding in the topics mentioned, to find and encourage cooperation and dialogue among officials working in European Union institutions and in the League of Arab States (LAS) Secretariat.
