In the framework of the EU-funded project El-Hiwar, a workshop took place in Brussels on “The Role of Civil Society Organisations in the Election Process” on 24 and 25 April 2017. The project, meaning ‘dialogue’ in Arabic, brings together representatives from the League of the Arab States Secretariat and the European Union to share and discuss best practices in several sectors.
During the event, representatives from the European Commission, European external Action Service , the League of Arab States Secretariat and CSO representatives, discussed the history, procedures, role of civil society and challenges in electoral observation the training included a practical simulation exercise. Visits to learn more about the Election Observation and Democratic Support project and the “Supporting Democracy” programme followed. Participants came from the League of Arab States Secretariat, Member States of the League of Arab States and the EU.
