ERMES III Project – Workshop “Advancing Women’s Role in Peace Processes” in Brussels

From 3 to 5 December 2018, the College of Europe contributed to the organization of a High-Level Dialogue between Yemeni and Syrian Female Representatives - “Advancing Women’s role in Peace Processes”. The event brought together 20 prominent Syrian and Yemeni female representatives from politics, civil society and grass root activism, directly involved in peace negotiations.

On 5 December, Ms Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy -European External Action Service, EEAS- and Vice-President of the European Commission, met the participants and listened to their recommendations to enhance women participation in peace processes. Read more about the exchange that took place between the participants and Ms Mogherini here.

The event was then closed by Ms Hilde Hardeman, Director of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) at the European Commission, and Mr Stefano Tomat, Head of Division of PRISM, the EEAS’ Prevention of conflicts, Rule of law/SSR, Integrated approach, Stabilization and Mediation (PRISM) team.

In fact, the workshop was organized in the framework of the EU-funded project ERMES III (European Resources for Mediation Support), an EU project financed by the European Commission’s Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace.

The College of Europe Development Office is the consortium leader in charge of implementing the project. The other consortium members are leading organizations specialized in mediation and dialogue: the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), ESSEC IRENÉ, Fondation Hirondelle, Interpeace, and MediatEUr.
