EU International Relations and Diplomacy students visit the multilateral diplomacy hub Geneva

From 3 to 7 March 2019, the students of the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies visited Geneva, the European headquarters of the United Nations and home to many other international and non-governmental organisations and think tanks. They enjoyed high-level lectures and participated in debates on various aspects of multilateral diplomacy at the United Nations Palais des Nations, at the World Trade Organisation, at the EU Delegation to the UN and EU Mission to the WTO, and at the Geneva Internet Platform. Students could also choose to visit the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the International Committee of the Red Cross, an EU member state Mission and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The topics addressed ranged from peace operations, disarmament, human rights and humanitarian affairs to digital policy, migration, trade, development and EU external representation. The study trip offered the participants new insights, contacts and career perspectives. It benefited from support of the Swiss Mission to the UN and Genève internationale and also included a networking evening with Geneva-based alumni.
