Final edition of the Fellowship Programme for Government Officials from the Western Balkans

This autumn, the 11th and final edition of the Fellowship Programme for Government Officials from the Western Balkans – Supporting Excellence and Leadership in Governance, managed by the European Fund for the Balkans was successfully implemented. The College of Europe is proud to have been cooperating with the European Fund for the Balkans on this Programme since its inception.

This Fellowship Programme, launched in 2008, is a practice-oriented educational programme aimed at civil servants from the Western Balkans. Its goal is to foster the European Union integration-driven reforms in the region, through the capacity building of public authorities. So far, over 200 government officials benefited from it (acquired new skills, build new competencies, and gained practical knowledge by working in the administrations of the EU Member States).  Today, they form a large regional community of people who work as agents of change.

This year, the Programme started with an Introductory Seminar that was held in Berlin and Potsdam from 7 to 13 September 2019. After the wrap-up of the Introductory Seminar, the Fellows spent two months in the respective EU host ministries. The Final Seminar, held in Thessaloniki from 9 to13 November 2019, was the closing event of the Programme. It included 3 sessions delivered by a trainer mobilised by the College of Europe:

  • Facing my intercultural leadership skills:
  • From EU insights to Balkan reality check:
  • Working together: needs and possibilities.
