First 2018 edition of the tailor-made course on ‘GCC-EU Relations’ in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

In a context where the internal situation of the EU is evolving rapidly and new challenges require a deep understanding of global governance mechanisms, the GCC Secretariat General approached the College of Europe Development Office to develop a tailor-made course on “GCC-EU relations” for 25 senior officials.

The course took place at the GCC Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 30 September to 4 October 2018. The programme included an overview of the EU legal architecture and decision-making process, Foreign Policy instruments, trade, and energy policies. Participants reflected upon and understood challenges and venues for cooperation with Europe, that will prove essential for their future international careers.

Linking theory to immediate practice, and knowledge transfer to skills building, this five-day course included interactive presentations on the technical content, simulation games in small groups and computer-based sessions on fact-checking.
