Great performance of College students at the London International Model United Nations

On 21-23 February 2020, a multinational group of 12 students from the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies successfully represented the College of Europe at the London International Model United Nations (LIMUN). The months of preparation for this extracurricular activity, supported by two Academic Assistants, culminated in a great performance of the students who all represented EU member states or EU institutions, in line with their study programme’s focus on EU external action. They researched and drafted various position papers, debated and negotiated with other delegates from all over the world on the premises of King’s College London. In the end, their efforts were officially lauded with eight distinctions:

Meri ASATRYAN (AM), representing Estonia in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC);

Monika DE SILVA (PL), representing Croatia in the Social Humanitarian and Cultural committee (SOCHUM);

Steffen ENGLING (DE), representing Luxembourg in the historical Bretton Woods 1944 committee;

Susan FOGARTY (IE), representing Malta in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP);

Lorenzo GIUGLIETTI (IT), representing Estonia in the Disarmament and International Security committee (DISEC);

Jonathan MISK (US), representing Estonia in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC);

Sofiia SHEVCHUK (UA), representing Croatia in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

Together with Johannes GASSNER (AU), representing Croatia in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Patrick GEOFFROY (IE/FR), representing Croatia in the Special Political and Decolonisation committee (SPECPOL), Dearbhaile O’CALLAGHAN (IE), representing Estonia in the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and Angelina YURKOVA (BY), representing Croatia in the Disarmament and International Security committee (DISEC), the delegation from Bruges made an outstanding impression, also thanks to the great team spirit during the whole endeavour.
