Manuel MARÍN Promotion 2018/2019

With Manuel MARÍN (1949-2017) the College honours the Spanish statesman who played a key role, as Secretary of State, in Spain’s accession to the European Community in 1986 and served as Vice-President and later President of the European Commission (1986-1999). One of his greatest achievements at the European level was the establishment of the Erasmus Programme in 1987 which has enabled millions of European students to spend part of their studies at European universities abroad. Mr MARIN, who was later elected President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies (2004-2008), is the first Promotion Patron who has also been an Alumnus of the College (Promotion Giuseppe Mazzini, 1973-1974).
