Dr Angelos KATSARIS, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow of the European Neighbourhood Policy Chair at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe, has just published an article, entitled "The Climate Challenge in the South Mediterranean" on the digital commons openDemocracy.
The article – which can be accessed here – presents the key climate change challenges in the coastal countries of North Africa and the Middle East following the recent publication of the Fifth IPCC Report on Climate Change and highlights the critical policy dilemmas of climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation for the policy makers of the region.
It also argues for closer inter-institutional coordination in national bureaucracies and enhanced trust-building efforts through technical collaboration from international funding organizations including the civil society, and finally stresses the need for the support of already existing regional institutions.
