Nordic-Baltic National Week with Mr Arnoldas PRANCKEVIČIUS

On 22 January 2015, Mr Arnoldas PRANCKEVIČIUS, Adviser to the President of the European Parliament, visited the Bruges campus of the College of Europe to give a talk as part of the Nordic-Baltic National Day. Mr PRANCKEVIČIUS shared his insights into the role of the Baltic states in the EU's Eastern Partnership, describing the Eastern Partnership as the first chance for these countries to write history themselves. He suggested that the EU has to be more strategic, less predictable, strengthen the Eastern Partnership instead of weakening it and make it more flexible by differentiating between countries, but without leaving anyone out—a challenge that the upcoming Riga summit has the potential to address.

On the same day the Nordic-Baltic students also prepared a lunch together with the cantine staff, serving Toast Skagen, oven-baked salmon and kladdkaka for all their colleagues to try out typical Nordic cuisine. Other Nordic-Baltic events during the week included a language cafe where students could learn Danish, Faroese, Finnish, Swedish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian, a debate on Nordic multiculturalism and the welfare state model, an after-ski party and a traditional sauna night.
