Pilot project supporting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) in Latin America and the Caribbean

The project started nearly one year ago and has just ended. For its pilot phase, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama and Peru were selected as target countries.

The College of Europe Development Office supported the organisation of 5 seminars (one per country) on policy frameworks that promote and support CSR/RBC in line with internationally agreed principles and guidelines. Following these seminars, the experts mobilised by the College of Europe produced Roadmaps to National Action Plans on CSR/RBC and business and human rights. In addition, the team also prepared a concept note and an ction fiche for the formulation of a larger regional project supporting CSR/RBC.

The project aimed at:

  • Implementing Chapter 8 of the EU-CELAC Action Plan on “Investments and entrepreneurship for sustainable development”;
  • Raising awareness of EU policy on CSR/RBC in Latin America;
  • Adopting a better environmental and social performance by relevant companies;
  • Lowering risk investment and increasing business opportunities for EU companies with CSR and RBC components.

The project was financed by the European Union via its Foreign Policy Instrument (FPI).
