Professor SCHUMACHER participates in the annual European Forum Alpbach 2016

Professor Tobias SCHUMACHER, Chairholder of the European Neighbourhood Policy Chair, was invited to participate in the annual European Forum Alpbach 2016, which started on 17 August 2016 and runs until 2 September 2016.

During the Forum, Professor SCHUMACHER co-chairs, together with Ambassador Pierre VIMONT, the former Secretary-General of the European External Action Service and France's former Ambassador to the United States, the course on "The EU and its Eastern Neighbours". The seminar is destined to provide participants with a better understanding of the EU's policies towards, and thus relations with, its eastern neighbours: Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Embedded in a policy-oriented analysis of the three editions of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership, it discusses the potentials and limits of the EU's engagement in its eastern neighbourhood and how this resonates with Russia's actions.

Established in 1945, the European Forum is the oldest and most prestigious international forum, connecting international decision- and opinion-makers from all sectors of society with an interested audience and committed young people, in order to discuss the most pressing socio-political issues of our time. More information on the Forum and this year's focus on "The New Enlightenment" can be found here.
