Recent research activities of Dr Johannes REMY during his stay in Russia

Dr Johannes REMY, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the European Civilization Chair at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe, has returned from a one-month archival working session at the State Archive of the Russian Federation (Gosudarstvennyi Arkhiv Rossiiskoi Federatsii, GARF) in Moscow.

Dr REMY studied documents of the All-Russian Provisional Government from 1917, when the government negotiated with the Ukrainian Central Council (Rada) about introducing autonomy for Ukraine. Although the two sides reached an agreement in the beginning of July 1917, several points of dispute remained until the Bolsheviks overthrew the Provisional Government in the October Revolution.

On 5 November 2015, Dr Johannes REMY held a presentation on "The question of Ukrainian autonomy under the All-Russian Provisional Government in 1917" at the Centre for Historical Research of the St Petersburg School of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Recently, Dr Johannes REMY has also written two popularizing articles in his native Finnish language: "Nationalism and Neo-Nationalism in Ukraine" (Futura, the Finnish Journal for Future Studies) and "The Polish-Ukrainian War 1918-1919" (Suomi-Puola, the journal of Finnish-Polish Society).
