Training on human rights, discrimination and disability in the Republic of Moldova

The College of Europe Development Office is delivering training for the staff of the People’s Advocate (Ombudsperson) Office and the Council on the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality (also known as Equality Council) in the Republic of Moldova.

Four training courses have been delivered already since March 2016. These first courses introduced the participants to international public law, the UN human rights system, human rights, discrimination and disability (both physical and mental aspects). As a result of the training courses, 21 staff members of the Ombudsperson Office and the Equality Council started applying the newly acquired knowledge into their daily work.

These are the first four modules out of a twelve-module syllabus, which will cover, inter alia, discrimination, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and freedom of expression.

The training courses are part of the project “Supporting National Human Rights Institutions as per international treaty bodies and Universal Periodic Review recommendations: Human Rights training for National Human Rights Institutions in the Republic of Moldova”, which is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-funded and implemented by the UNDP Moldova and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in cooperation with the Ombudsperson Office and Equality Council.
