From 30 November to 6 December 2015, the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe hosted a training for Ukrainian civil servants who are currently working on the implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine. The training has been organized on request of the Government Office for European Integration of Ukraine in partnership with the College of Eastern Europe (Kolegium Europy Wschodniej) and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation (PAFF).
The training program focused on the legal aspects of European integration. Based on Poland’s experience back in the 1990s and the current practical experience of Polish administration, trainees learned the specifics of law approximation, regulatory impact assessment mechanisms and the coordination of EU law transposition. The training program also included study visits to line Ministries of Poland and practical skills workshops (drafting and presentation in English).
The trainings in Natolin continues the series of trainings for Ukrainian civil servants co-organized by the Natolin campus and PAFF, which had been initiated last year. Earlier this year, three trainings for Ukrainian civil servants were held in Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv. In July, two more trainings took place in Natolin. The trainings covered the basics of the EU legal system, law approximation techniques and also included a simulation exercise, which modeled negotiations in the European Council.
