WEASA 2015 Edition - Call for Participants

The Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe with the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and the Polish American Freedom Foundation are pleased to launch a call for participants for the third edition of the Warsaw Euro-Atlantic Summer Academy (WEASA). The main objectives of the Academy are presenting the political, social and economic foundations of modern democracies in the European Union and the transatlantic community and promoting them in the Eastern European countries.

WEASA is in line with the Eastern Partnership (EaP) initiative that aims at accelerating political association, deepening economic integration, enhancing mobility of citizens and strengthening sector cooperation between the European Union and the Eastern European partner countries. It also supports the shared commitment to stability, security and prosperity of the parties concerned as well as promotes the good-neighbourly relations at the inter-state, regional and world-wide levels.

The WEASA 2015 edition will be devoted to one of the most pressing issues of recent years – energy security. The participants will reflect on the impact of energy architecture on the global, regional and national markets and their broader influence on both domestic and foreign policy. They will also discuss the challenges and opportunities for assuring energy security in their respective countries, as well as within the European Union and in the United States.

We thus encourage up-and-coming policy analysts, experts, advisers, civil servants, private sector/NGO professionals and journalists from the Eastern Partnership region (i.e. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), dealing with European integration, state transformation processes and/or transatlantic cooperation to participate in the upcoming WEASA edition.

The priority will be given to candidates in their mid-career, i.e. having at least 5 years of experience within a field of the WEASA mandate. The WEASA program will be delivered by prominent academics and analysts from leading European and American think tanks as well as high-level officials and practitioners. Travel, accommodation and educational costs will be covered by WEASA. The WEASA third edition is tentatively scheduled for 29 June - 10 July 2015. Application requirements can be found at www.weasa.org.

The closing date for application is 28 February 2015, 23:59pm (GMT+1). Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview.
