WEASA 2019 "Humans, Machines, Politics, Truth" – Call for Applications

The College of Europe Natolin campus, the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation (PAFF), supported by the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission, announce a call for applications for the seventh edition of the Warsaw Euro-Atlantic Summer Academy (WEASA) which is taking place from 7 July to 17 July 2019.

WEASA 2019 will look into several topics, including:

  • The social and political impacts of AI;
  • The fight against disinformation;
  • How to better secure our devices and communications.

But WEASA won't just be a time for lectures. You will also have a chance to attend practical workshops by experts from around the world and sit down for deep discussions with key figures in the digital and policy worlds.

We welcome applicants who are citizens and residents of the following countries:

  • All the Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine;
  • All the Western Balkan countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

Whom do we look for?

We typically look for people who meet the following three criteria:

  • They are mid-career professionals, typically with at least five years of professional experience, ideally in a field related to the topic of WEASA;
  • They work as policy analysts, experts, advisers, civil servants, journalists, private sector specialists and in NGOs;
  • They are interested in the European integration process, state transformation processes, transatlantic cooperation, cybersecurity, journalism, and digital media.

WEASA lectures will all be designed with a non-technical audience in mind – you don’t need to be a digital expert in order to sign up!


The WEASA 2019 program will be delivered by prominent academics and analysts from leading European and American think tanks, as well as high-level officials and practitioners.


WEASA will cover travel, boarding and accommodation expenses.
