Students watch Conference on the Future of Europe launch ceremony with Rector MOGHERINI

On Sunday 9 May, annually marked as Europe Day, the cross-campus Young European Federalists (JEF) student team hosted an online screening of the opening ceremony of the Conference on the Future of Europe for the students in Bruges and Natolin.

The official launch of the Conference, an EU-wide exercise inviting citizens to share their visions for Europe's future, was held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The students of our both campuses were virtually joined by Rector Federica MOGHERINI, who gave her reflections before the screening and exchanged with the students after the event. The ceremony included interventions from the European Commission President Ursula VON DER LEYEN, French President Emmanuel MACRON and other high-level European protagonists.

Needless to say that the 9th of May is a very special date for the College community as a whole. Every year, Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman DeclarationAt a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert SCHUMAN (1886-1963), the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. The landmark speech is credited with marking the launch of European integration.
