Dr Giovanna DI MAURO attended the ISA 2021 Annual Convention

On 7 April 2021, Dr Giovanna DI MAURO participated in the annual convention organized by the International Studies Association (ISA), focusing on Globalization, Regionalism and Nationalism: Contending Forces in World Politics.

Dr DI MAURO presented a paper on artistic protests and activism in Eastern Europe. In her paper, based on interviews with artists and activists based in Moldova, she argued that artistic expression can be considered a form of political dissent, especially when it involves the public sphere and repressive responses from ruling governments. The paper was part of a panel on Applications for an International Political Design, exploring the relationship between International Relations, International Political Sociology and Science and Technology Studies.

The discussion was moderated by Dr Mark J. LACY from Lancaster University.
