Professor Richard BUTTERWICK-PAWLIKOWSKI edited the first English-language edition of the historical journal "Kwartalnik Historyczny"

Poland’s oldest and most respected historical journal, Kwartalnik Historyczny, has for the first time been published in an English-language edition. This special issue, intended as a showcase for the journal, was edited by Professor Richard BUTTERWICK-PAWLIKOWSKI, Chairholder of the EP Geremek European Civilization Chair at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe and one of the deputy editors of the journal.

This issue contains articles on medieval Bohemian coinage, on African women enslaved by the Portuguese in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, public executions in eighteenth-century London, ‘Turanian’ racial ideas in the nineteenth century, and constitutional controversies in Poland during the 1920s and 1930s. It also includes a portrait sketch of the journal, review articles on ‘popular religion’ in medieval Europe and on Polish-Lithuanian ideas of republican liberty (the latter by Professor BUTTERWICK-PAWLIKOWSKI) and four reviews.

The entire special issue is available online, free of charge, from the History Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (link).
