BJÖRKSTEN N. & MURIEL CARRASCO R. - Policy Analysis and Evaluation (25/30h)

This course aims at depicting a full picture to students about public policies in the EU context. Namely, it provides indispensable pre-requisite knowledge on how public policies are designed on the one hand, while on the other hand, equips students with methodologies on how they are assessed. Whether and how public policies could achieve their objectives in the best possible way is also one of the essential aspect of this course, including their advantages and limitations. Moreover, students acquire transferable skills on impact evaluation of public policies.

The main objective of this course is to provide students with an advanced knowledge of how public policies are designed and evaluated. Students will learn about better regulation and its key tools, and acquire transferable skills on impact assessment and ex-post policy evaluation. The approach taken in the course is interdisciplinary, and Students will learn to combine reasoning from political and economic angles in order to critically approach real-life cases.
