This seminar will provide students with a thorough understanding of the procedural mechanism and constraints governing the application of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU by the European Commission.

The seminar will analyze the Commission’s investigative and decision-making powers and their practical interaction with undertaking’s rights of defence. It will expose students to every aspect and step of competition law procedures, as well as to the role of the EU Courts, national courts and national competition authorities.

On completion of the course, students will gain a deep understanding of how substantive competition law is applied in practice. They will be expected to master the principles, precedents and rules of EU administrative law governing competition proceedings, and to reflect critically about them in the light of general principles of law and fundamental rights.
