TOYGÜR Ilke - Understanding the Impact of Political Risks and Megatrends on the Future of Europe (8h)
Professor : Ilke TOYGÜR
Academic Assistant : Sara Maria BARBAGLIA
What is going on in the world is directly impacting the future of Europe. The project that started in the aftermath of World War II is going through a major transformation due to megatrends and ever rising global risks. From climate change to technological transformation, the decline of multilateral institutions and ever-increasing great power competition all have a direct impact on the EU.
Megatrends are major driving forces that are observable now and will have significant influence on the future. They are drivers of change. Megatrends open up the door to understanding systemic changes. The European Union as a supranational institution is not immune to these changes.
This seminar seeks to link the global transformations to politics, policies, institutional and budgetary discussions of the European Union. Establishing a link between the two layers -the global and the European – the Professor targets to encourage the students to think about “How to reinvent the European Union?”
