COLLIER Zoë - Writing and Presenting Impactful Policy Briefings in a Political Environment (8h)

The transition from academic study to a professional role in EU institutions, diplomacy, or national government requires more than subject knowledge. It demands the ability to interpret complex political environments, exercise sound judgement, and communicate clearly and persuasively to decision-makers. This interactive and practice-focused seminar is designed to develop exactly those capabilities. It equips participants with the core skills expected of policy officers, diplomats, and advisers working in Brussels, in Member State administrations and beyond. Through realistic, hands-on exercises, participants will work on tasks that mirror the day-to-day responsibilities of officials — such as analysing fast-moving political developments, drafting briefings for senior decision-makers, and presenting clear, actionable advice under time pressure. The seminar emphasises how to translate complex information into concise, relevant, and impactful communication tailored to different audiences. Students will better understand what is expected in professional policy and diplomatic roles and will apply these skills in realistic scenarios — strengthening their readiness for recruitment processes and for early career roles in demanding policy environments.
