MAKRIDOU Georgia - Energy Policy in the EU (10h)

The course is designed to equip students with a thorough and critical understanding of energy policy in the European Union, with emphasis on its evolution, structure, and key objectives. It introduces the principal policy instruments and major frameworks, including the 2020, 2030, and 2050 energy and climate strategies, alongside major initiatives such as the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package. The module also examines how energy policy is formulated, adopted, implemented, and evaluated within the EU governance system, highlighting the role of institutions and the influence of political, economic, and environmental drivers. Particular emphasis is placed on energy efficiency policies and energy labelling schemes, enabling students to critically assess their design, implementation, and effectiveness in supporting the EU’s transition to a sustainable and low-carbon energy system.
